The Inspiration

Les is a guy who lives life to the full, but due to surgery now uses a condom catheter. He could not find briefs to suit his particular needs and after approaching several other manufacturers found Discretely Different who were happy to help him. This is the design brief he gave us:

To design underwear for someone with a dislike of loose boxer shorts. Previous surgery and sensitive skin caused physical limitations in the choice of underwear. The design had to allow the male anatomy to be free of the underwear without any chafing from the pants. The pants needed additional side openings to ensure no kinking of pipes when the loo was used. The design needed to fit snugly to keep everything in place.

Product features

We fulfilled Les's requiremens as detailed below:

The Les briefs are made from lightweight polyamide/elastane Lycra microfibre SENSITIVE® fabric which uses the latest in fabric technology. This allows some of the fabric edges in strategic places, to be left raw cut and free from any seams, which could irritate sensitive areas. This has enabled an unseamed slit to be strategically positioned in the front gusset to allow for tubes to exit without the risk of kinking. For Les's pants an oval hole fulfilled his actual requirements.

The four-way stretch, typical of SENSITIVE® fabrics, and the high percentage of elastane Lycra® fibre, offer perfect wearability and ensures the garment keeps its shape, even after repeated washes.

The special construction makes SENSITIVE® an extremely light and ultra fine fabric, giving an extremely pleasant feel against the skin.

The fabric used also has great wicking properties, which draws moisture away from the skin for easy evaporation. Thanks to the honeycomb cellular structure of SENSITIVE®, the fabric construction is "open" and airy, allowing for natural air circulation between the fibres and thus ensuring greater freshness and hygiene. Its breathability means that it generates a feeling of well-being that no other fabric, not even natural fabrics such as cotton, can guarantee.

The unique front opening can be customised to suit individual requirements. It is recommended the advice of a healthcare professional should be sought, before enquiring to see if this type of brief could be suitable for individual needs.

Side opening poppers allow easy use of the toilet without kinking the tubing or pulling on the catheter.

The high cut of the pants, which was a requirement for this particular design, also ensures that the leg seams don't cause any chafing in the groin area. If required the the depth of the sides can be altered to suit individual requests.

The leg edges are finished using a soft stretchy elastic binding to maximise comfort.

Briefs are supplied according to waist measurement.

If anyone is looking for a side opening slip brief this design can be adapted to have a wider gusset without a slit, which could be more suited to take incontinence pads if requested.

For any gent who is interested in this product, but is looking for something which is a little different to that shown, we are happy to make alterations. We are aware that a one style suiting all, doesn't. For this bespoke service we have a £15.00 prototype charge. Prices for final pants will be quoted when a workable design has been finalised.
